The Grenfell Tower blaze, in the divided district of Kensington and Chelsea in London, is utterly horrific - but is also becoming symbolic, standing in for our general sense of a British society seriously out of balance, even fatally unjust. The veteran journalist Jon Snow from Channel Four News is often upheld as an anchorman who defies the aggressive, inquistorial norm - and in this clip from his reporting (below), he is in full "listening and empathising" mode, able to draw extraordinary testimony, emotion and anger from the residents. Much will change after this event - but we hope Jon's exemplary reporting does not.
