"We want healthy communities in a well-forested land": Reforesting Scotland pursue their vision in this stirring video
Glad to receive this tip from Patrick Chalmers (the citizen journalist promoting citizens’ assemblies), about a short video from Reforesting Scotland, an organisation aimed at making the case for the care and growth of forested land in Scotland. The video above is a condensation of their 2018 “Land Revival” study trip across Scotland, covering these areas:
In June, on the hottest two days of the year, we visited the northern Cairngorms, taking in a large ecological restoration site at Glen Feshie, innovative forest-based businesses, watercourse restoration, timber growing and a community woodland at Anagach by Grantown-on-Spey.
August found us being rained on in Southern Scotland, around the Moffat area, visiting the impressive Carrifran Wildwood project, Woodlots, riparian woodland restoration, more woodland businesses including mountain biking trails and hire, and a mixed-management estate.
The October leg was in the Central Belt, based in Cumbernauld.t
We were looking at new commercial forests, broadleaf timber use, land reclamation through reforestation, hutting and building resilient communities through green networks.
The write-up of their journey comes in the form of several essays in the new edition of their regular Journal (the relevant issue here). But there are many interesting free articles available from back issues (in PDF form) including:
